Angry Tias & Abuelas of the Rio Grand Valley - Fight for Migrant Families
Elizabeth “Lizee” Cavazos was the co-captain of the McAllen bus station efforts for the year in which we saw thousands of refugees released by ICE and Border Patrol to travel by bus to sponsors in the US. Lizee was the one to spot particular problems that were outside the norm and figured out how to solve them. Now, in addition to going to Matamoros every week, where she also communicates with the free store managers, she represents Angry Tias and Abuelas on both a weekly NGO conference call and the Rapid Response Network of the Equal Voice Network. Along with Susan Law and Jennifer Harbury, Lizee attends meetings in Matamoros between Mexican federal officials and other NGOs. She reluctantly but eloquently speaks with local, national and international press when necessary. She is featured in ACTIVIZED, a documentary about new activists.

For Some Veterans- Deportation is the Ultimate Injustice
United Deported Veterans is a small non-profit working with Veterans For Peace in order to help veterans who have been deported from the United States. In current law, any felony can be a cause of deportation, and judges do not have the discretion to take into account military service. Hector Lopez who was deported 13 years ago after serving one year for a felony, was brought to the United States as a four-year-old. Maria “Lupita” Cibrian, Lopez’s wife, is also a member of the non-profit team and advocates for deported veterans in their Tijuana office. Produced by Victoria Bruce of Boom Boom Media Group.
